Originally launched in the 1990s, OverPower was a crossover trading card game that brought together characters from Marvel, DC, and Image Comics under one trading card game system. Modern OverPower keeps that same core identity while expanding beyond traditional superhero-only lineups, using characters from a wide range of licenses, mythologies, literary works, and fictional settings. In that sense, OverPower is less about a single universe and more about a shared game engine that allows very different properties to coexist in one format.
In actual play, OverPower is a two-player team battler rather than a simple character-collecting game. Players build teams of characters to battle it out or try to complete their unique Mission. The game is won through a mix of combat, mission progress, as some bluffing and gamesmanship. OverPower is a game that rewards cretivity, innovative design, and tactical in game decision-making that rewards play and reduces variance.
Why OverPower
01 The game
Build a team of four under a 76-point Threat cap: three on the Front Line, one in Reserve. Each character brings a Power Grid of Energy, Combat, Brute Force and Intelligence. Every battle you draw eight cards and wager Mission Objectives on the result. Win by completing your Mission, defeating theirs, or KOing all four opposing characters. Simple to learn, deep skill expression.
02 The collection
Rares and Ultra Rares carry new art on silver cold foil with the same Power Grid, Threat Value and Inherent Ability as the Common. A competitive deck costs about $20 to $30. Every Skybound booster holds two complete character stacks, the Character and all five of its Specials. Boosters allow you to deck build, draft and collect, all in one pack.
03 The store
Available in more than 800 stores, with five official formats, two Sealed and three Constructed, and Regionals and Nationals on TopDeck. Prize packs are earned at events, never sold, and over 200 foil cards come only from them.
In this episode, we’re taking a deep dive into Invincible, one of the most powerful and iconic heroes from the Invincible universe in the Skybound set for the OverPower Card Game. A young hero with incredible strength, speed, and determination, Invincible brings his powerful abilities and heroic fighting style to the OverPower battlefield. But how do his unique abilities and strengths translate into OverPower gameplay?

This release is built to shake up Modern OverPower with new characters, new strategic interactions, and expanded deck-building options, adding 36 playable characters to the game. With Invincible and The Walking Dead players will be able to create their dream teams in both Legacy and Modern play formats. Skybound Overpower delivers exciting and impactful additions for both casual and competitive play.
LRG is launching Skybound with a robust organized play environment including sanctioned constructed and limited events with prize support, as well as a pro tour consisting of at least four major regional events and a Nationals. This gives stores multiple ways to grow local communities and keep players engaged. We also support multiple casual formats for players who want to come into stores to play, but don’t enjoy competitive tournament play. Learn to Play initiatives will also help new and returning players get into the game more easily and give retailers or Ambassadors simple tools to run demos and introductory sessions.
Retail support is built to help make the late August release visible and approachable in stores. Planned materials include posters, window clings, table tents, shelf talkers, and stickers, giving retailers practical assets to promote the game and support in store engagement. Combined with strong franchise recognition and structured player support, this release is positioned as both a product launch and a community-building moment for Modern OverPower.
